Guidelines To Pairing The Best Flavored Woods To Your Favorite Smoked Foods

Are you confused by which smoking woods best compliment different types of smoked foods? You are not alone. Mankind has been cooking over burning woods for thousands of years. Through much trial and error it is obvious that certain types of woods best flavor specific foods, better than others. There are many varieties of wood that are used in the process of both hot smoking and cold smoking foods. The combinations of woods to foods are positively endless. Most people equate the process of smoking with meat, poultry and seafood. There are a great many other choices for smoking however. Cheeses, nuts, vegetables and even fruits are also excellent choices. That being said, there is little wonder that this can be a bit baffling. Exactly which wood flavors compliment what food types will be clarified in this article.

I have been smoking many varieties of food for over 40 years. I believe that the flavor introduced into the foods through the smoking process makes the food some of the finest culinary tastes in the world. The key here is that the wood should compliment the flavor of the foods not overpower it. When I began smoking many years ago it was very confusing to me as to which species of wood I should use with which food. Although many people have personal taste preferences, there are certainly general rules to follow. With a vast array of choices, I will do my best to try to simplify this for you.

First and foremost, there are many woods that absolutely should NOT be used for food smoking. Some of these woods are actually toxic to human beings while others just impart a horrible flavor. The general rule of thumb is to avoid the evergreen family. Some of the woods to avoid include, cedar, cypress, elm, pine, fir, redwood, spruce and sycamore. Now that we know what NOT to smoke with, let's get onto the good and flavorful woods that you should use.

There are many woods that you can smoke with. I am going to elaborate on the top choices, finest tasting, and most popular smoking woods. Fruitwood trees are amongst the most popular with the seasoned food smokers and are well known for their sweet delicate flavors. This list is organized from the mildest smoking woods to the most robust.

1. APPLE - Mild flavor, light sweet taste, and imparts a fruity smoked flavor.

Best foods - Beef, Poultry (especially game birds), Pork (in particular hams), Cheddar Cheese and Oysters

Foods can be smoked for longer periods of time due to the mildness of this wood. Excellent for cold smoking.

2. CHERRY - Delicate flavor, sweet taste, and also imparts a fruity smoked flavor.

Best Foods - Poultry (especially game birds), Pork, Scallops, Eggplant, Bananas, and Cheeses

Foods can be smoked for extended periods of time due to the mildness of this wood. Excellent for cold smoking.

3. ALDER - Mild delicate flavor, with an impressive and unique taste.

Best Foods: The traditional choice for Salmon. Swordfish, Sturgeon, Halibut, Steelhead, Prawns, Shrimp,

Rattlesnake, Chicken and Corn on the Cob.

Normal standard smoking times are the rule. Another good choice for cold smoking.

4. MAPLE - Somewhat sweet and imparts a mild smoky flavor. Try mixing maple with some corncobs for bacon.

Best Foods: Poultry, Hams, Lamb, Vegetables (especially acorn squash), Tuna and Salmon.

Normal standard smoking times apply. Great for cold smoking.

5. PECAN - Delicate but rich, similar to hickory. Burns cool and is ideal for low heat smoking.

Best Foods: Pork, Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Wild Game, Fish, Cheeses and Portabella Mushrooms.

Normal standard smoking times apply. Popular choice for cold smoking.

6. OAK - Somewhat strong but pleasant flavor without being over powering. The most versatile of the hardwoods.

Best Foods: Salmon, Beef (particularly brisket), Buffalo, Elk, Poultry and Lamb.

Slightly shorter smoking times due to the slight intensity of the wood. Good for cold smoking.

7. HICKORY - Strong, pungent, bacon like, smoky flavor.

Best Foods: Beef, Pork (spare ribs, sausage), Chicken, Lamb, Fish, Venison, Moose, Cheeses and Almonds.

Shorter smoking times result in rich flavors, longer smoking times may overpower. Good for cold smoking.

8. MESQUITE - Strongest, but sweeter and more delicate than hickory. Tends to burn hot - use carefully.

Best Foods: Most Meats (especially beef), Wild Game, Chicken, Peanuts, and Vegetables

Not for long smoking. Popular in restaurants where foods are cooked for short periods of time

Is your mouth watering yet? On an interesting note, I have also smoked with wine and whiskey barrel woods. If the woods are available to you this is a fun, unique and very flavorful way to smoke. The wine barrel wood infuses a subtle, sweet and fruity taste, whereas the whiskey barrel wood has a more pronounced and woodsy taste.

Many of us own today's modern smokers designed to simplify the smoking for us. I personally own a Bradley Digital Electric smoker and it is just fantastic and offers very low maintenance smoking. The Bradley smoker uses all of the above wood flavors in custom wood bisquettes which are auto dispensed into the smoker. For those of you who do not own a smoker but love charcoal and gas grilling, fear not. Simply take your wood chips and soak them in water for about 20 minutes then add them to the top of the coals, immediately before adding the food. For extended grilling times try adding additional chips every 5 - 10 minutes to keep the smoke flavor on going. The more chips you add the more intense the flavor becomes. You will enjoy.

It has taken me many years of experimentation and note taking to make sense of the above list as the possibilities are truly never ending. I have learned that some foods cooked with improper woods produce poor results. If one would follow the above list as a true and honest guideline, you cannot go wrong. To further elaborate on the smoking possibilities, I sometimes blend two or more wood flavors together to come up with really unique and interesting flavor combinations. There are many people who have never smoked foods and they have truly deprived themselves of one of the finer things in life. I feel that everyone owes it to themselves to experience the art of smoking and put an end to food boredom once and for all.

Looking for a quality food smoker or flavored wood chips? Optics and Outdoor Gear carries a fine line of smokers, accessories, and outdoor related items. We enjoy sharing our knowledge with articles like this, with our fellow outdoorsmen.

The Ultimate Guide to Buying Truffles

The Ultimate Guide to Buying Truffles

When you buy truffles for the first time it can be quite intimidating, and it is easy to be overwhelmed by the wide variety of truffle types on the market. By taking the time to learn about how truffles are harvested and graded, you will be able to get the most for your money and enjoy your truffle shopping experience.

The first thing to keep in mind is that truffles are a specialty ingredient, and as such they are unlikely to be found at your local grocery. While some local grocery stores may carry a limited number of truffle products like truffle oil and truffle butter, you are unlikely to find the variety or quality you need. Instead you will want to buy truffles at a specialty store or from an online gourmet food store, which offers the opportunity to conveniently buy truffles online

When shopping for fresh truffles, knowing the time of year they are harvested assists in determining their quality and palatability. Chefs the world over agree that winter truffles are far superior to summer truffles in both aroma and flavor, so if you can afford it, buy winter truffles whenever possible.

That brings us to another important distinction in the world of truffles. These delicacies are divided - quite literally - into black and white. Fresh black truffles have a strong flavor and an equally strong aroma, and this heady combination makes them the perfect ingredient for many upscale dishes.

Fresh white truffles, on the other hand, are best suited as a delicate garnish and a wonderful finish to a variety of dishes. The delicate flavor of white truffles makes them a wonderful topper for rich and creamy pasta dishes.

When you buy truffles it is also important to know how these specialty items are graded. Fresh truffles are divided into three distinct grading categories - super extra, extra grade and first choice.

Only the best fresh truffles get to wear the super extra crown, and those that do tend to be very expensive. The top 10% or so of truffles harvested are classified as extra grade, and those truffles are an excellent choice. The rest of the truffle harvest goes into the first choice category. These truffles will be less costly than the other grades, but an excellent choice nonetheless, so you may find that this grade works best with a smaller budget.

Losing Weight on the Paleo Diet

This article details how easy weight loss was when I discovered the Paleo Diet. No hunger, a great sense of well being, and I'm heading towards my target weight with no trouble at all. I'm even having a 'Cheat Day' each week.

A few months ago, I took up running. Started on a Couch 2 5K plan and after 9 weeks was easily running for 30 minutes. I can now run 15 km with relative easy. I found however, and this is not really a surprise, that my few kilos of excess weight was not really disappearing. The fitness industry rants on about how long aerobic sessions are the way to lose weight. It helps but resistance training and modifications to ones eating habits really do the trick.

I did some research on the web and came across Loren Cordain's book, The Paleo Diet. Ordered a copy, liked what I read and duly started to follow the pattern.

I've always been interested in health, fitness and why modern humans succumb to so much illness, disease, obesity, allergies etc. It turns out that we are Stone-Age people living in a modern world of processed food, laziness, poor work environments etc. The human genome has only changed 0.02% in the last 40 thousand years. Those people, of which we are the offspring ate a diet consisting mainly of meat, vegetables, nuts and fruit. They may have eaten some grass seeds (of which wheat is a modern version), but only in very small quantities. Modern use of grains didn't start until 10 thousand years ago with the first farms in the Middle East.

So, modern humans are eating foods that the human body has not evolved to eat. We're poisoning ourselves and shortening our lives. Appreciated, ancient people probably had shorter lifespans, but they were lean and athletic, able to chase animals for long distances. We as modern humans should embrace the diet of old and take advantage of the modern developments in medicine to allow ourselves to live long healthy lives. It's amazing how many people get into their late 60's and for them life is nearly over. Their muscles waste, the stoop, their demeanor is that of a beaten person heading towards death. This is not the way it should be.

The Paleo diet revolves around eating lean meat, fruit and vegetables (not root or starchy veggies) with each meal. Eggs are allowed as are nuts and small amounts of dried fruit. Grains, pulse and dairy are all out. You can have a cheat meal or two per week, but if you have a lot of weight to lose, I'd restrict that to just one. Drink plenty of water. I'd advise using a program like Fitday (free) to monitor all you eat for a couple of weeks to make sure you are getting the calories and nutrients you need. After that just go with the flow.

I eat a lot of stir frys and love them, curries can be made easily. There is wealth of recipes available online, and the book also has plenty.

I will write another article soon going more into depth about how I eat, but I have lost 7 kg with ease over the last 3 months, I was only 7 my desired weight so it was easy. If you're a lot bigger, the weight will shift with ease.

Take a look at the book, consult your doctor if you think you need to, and enjoy easy weight loss with out the hunger.

Steve has been writing articles for nearly 4 years and is passionate about health, fitness and travel.Come visit his latest website over at http//24bathroomvanity.org which helps people find the best 24 Bathroom Vanity and information when remodelling a bathroom

What is the primo diet to slim?

All the authors of diet would tend to claim that their program of weight loss is the best!

Personally I divide the opinion of the researchers of the University of Tufts which concluded that to have the most important success this is not the contents of the diet, but if this is what is appropriate for your temperament and your personality, that means a diet that you can follow without difficulties, without having the impression to make an effort or a sacrifice.

They studied 160 people during one year, who followed one of the 4 most popular diets: the diet of Dr. Ornish, of Dr. Atkins, the Zone of Barry Sears, and the Weight Watchers program. The goal of research was to determine the assiduity of the participants to follow the program. The rates of abandon (leave) over one year were the following:

Ornish: 50%

Atkins: 48%

Zone: 35%

Weight Watchers: 35%

For the people who had the assiduity and continued the program on the complete year, the results were similar, it do not matter the followed diet, that is to say 25% of the participants lost 5% of their body weight and 10% lost more than 10% of their body weight.

The benefit on the parameters of cardiac health were also similar with a significant decrease of the bad cholesterol (LDL) and a reduction in the rate of insulin presents in blood.

These results indicate to us that finally these four diets allow to lose weight in so far as one follows the plan over one sufficient period of time.

Another study of the University of Missouri, in the United States consisted in lending a dog to each participant, in a case for 26 weeks, another case for 52 weeks.

The hints wconcerning incite citizenry to leave their home also to to walk a day. Majority of the participants were not inside excellent fitness also to skilled of corpulence (fatness).
The consequence were the following: the participants who older themselves entrusting the duty of a puppy throughout 50 weeks missed about to happenual 7 kilos (15,4 lbs), which is a consequence certainly over those acquired by the certain detected nutrients.

Because aspects the participants who lodged a puppy throughout 26 weeks, they didn't lose fat.

30 years ago of that, Doctor Jean-Pierre Desmets managed the Marcel Rouet Psycho-Center in Brussels. One applied a program based mainly on the mental control of the appetite. One also recommended to the patients to begin the program by a diet holding account from certain food combinations, without prohibition or limitation of food group. One used also a treatment using the capacity of essential oils.

The results obtained were spectacular and the Doctor Desmets described, twenty years ago of that, the complete program in a work which had been ordered for the US market and English speakers.

To return from there to the question of which is the best program of weight loss,I am return' in thus return to the conclusion of the study described at the beginning of this chronicle, the best program is that which you will be able to follow without constraints. That which corresponds to your temperament, a program which does not require a restrictive discipline of you and which you could find difficult to follow.

He does not believe much in the programs which put a too large emphase on the calculation of calories and limit allowed food. Its experiment in this field showed that it is not necessary to follow a mode of famine to lose weight, quite to the contrary. A good program will not be too restrictive, it will make it possible the person to eat with his hunger and to find his instinct of food favorable to health and the maintenance of a standard weight.

A good program will support the relaxation and the control of the stress, a large person in charge of the catch of weight, it will also support the movement and the exercise, but in a natural way and without that being an excess of efforts very often above the physical capacities and the mental will of the person seeking to lose weight.

Quite a baffling field. The collection of the diet is not the superfine but really what category of fast direction you can arise on a longish term: Burn Fat Fast

Paleolithic Diet Food List Super Paleo Food List And Recipe Combo For Your Gastronomic Pleasure!

When it came to finding precise Paleolithic diet food list and recipes, part of me felt like giving up! This happened months ago when I was first introduced to the world of Paleolithic nutrition diet. See, there was so much contradicting information on what can or cannot be eaten by a Palo diet follower.  Alright look, we don't have to be so neurotic about it. We do have the choice of adding non-Paleo friendly ingredients in our daily meals. Really, it all depends on your level of strictness.   And besides, there are plenty of seasoning alternatives to juice up the taste of your daily Paleo meals. For example, many folks like to add salt in their dishes (me too!). Now, in the caveman diet list, salt is a no-no item.

So what can you do?
Well, I just use vegetables organic kelp granules or add more sautéed onion, garlic and shallot combo to juice up the taste of my Paleo foods.  Listen, I learned A LOT of about Paleolithic diet food list along with tons of tasty recipes from several downloadable cookbooks. I'll tell you where to get those cookbooks in a short while, but I'm in a sharing mood right now so check out the following food list and recipe first.

Basic Food List
Fruits and Vegetables - Asparagus, avocado, apricot, bananas, capsicum, cabbage, garlic, ginger, leek and lychee are all Paleo approved. Meanwhile, peas, green beans, sweet potato, and chestnuts are not Paleo friendly.

Meats and seafood - Bison, cow, buffalo, duck, poultry venison and veal are alright. Bacon and ham on the other hand, aren't 100% Paleo approved.

Other foods to be avoided by strict Paleo followers - Maple syrup, coffee beans arrowroot and gelatin.

Now, here's one of my favorite paleo diet recipes!

Paleo Turkey Meatloaf

Ingredients:

1 lbs ground turkey, 1 teaspoon kelp granules, 1 onion, 1 egg, ½ cup ground nuts combo ( I combined crush walnuts and almonds), 5 cloves garlic, some black pepper.

Directions:

Combine ingredients well. Next, grease a loaf pan with some olive oil and put the mixed ingredients on the pan. Bake for approximately 70 - 75 minutes.

Now, SATISFY your gastronomic urge with this yummy turkey meat loaf made with ingredients that are in accordance with the Paleolithic diet food list.

Oh yes! About those Paleo recipe cookbooks I mentioned earlier. You can download them by following this link: http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Get Lean Thighs - How To Get Lean Legs Quickly

The way to get skinny thighs is usually a challenge quite a few people wrestle with practically all their lives. It's a rough problem area for most, but Asian Women have easy methods they've employed for years to acquire those skinny thin legs and we're going to talk about one of these today.

Get Slim Thighs - How To Get Slim Legs Quickly

1. It is important to exercise, but we don't wish to get thick buff legs by doing it wrong...

A lot of women make the miscalculation of treating their legs like every other part of their body, assuming that endless leg-press exercises with weights or machines at the gym is going to "sculpt" or "shape" their thighs.

Doing those routines will definitely shape your legs, but unless you want legs like the Incredible Hulk, you have to find another way!

Asian Women carry out two main methods to get skinny thighs and never accumulate thick leg muscles. The first revolves around easy walking. Walking has a host of benefits that Asian Women really benefit from that I've referred to before in articles, but one region we haven't covered expressly is how they modify their walking approach to match their end goal.

For thin legs, Asian Women add a twist to their typical motion while walking: They walk on the front pad of the foot, not having their heel reaching the ground.

They can do this in running shoes, tennis shoes, or really any shoe which has no heel, essentially it's nearly as if you are walking while standing on your tippy toes stretching for something off a tall ledge. Only rather than a complete extension your heel is just a centimeter or half an inch off the floor with every step. So reduced in fact that people watching you couldn't tell you are walking with a different technique than the regular heel-toe step.

It's going to take some practice, but when you're carrying it out during your normal walks (you are walking aren't you, haha) you will identify that first your calf muscle begins to get a wonderful lean shape, but most importantly your strong thigh muscles will quickly reduce in size while being nicely toned. Ultimately it's like carrying out hundreds of repetitions on a weight machine that has essentially no weight on it...fantastic for not building size but refining and toning a thinner and more fit thigh!

2. There are several secrets like these that Asian Women do effortlessly to keep their skinny bodies all through their lives, making use of dozens of easy tips, tricks, and methods available to get the body of their dreams.

Tips to Replace Sugar in Your Baked Goods

Whether you are reducing the sugar in your diet under your doctor's orders, because you are trying to lose weight, or maybe just because you are trying to have a healthier diet, those sudden and sometimes uncontrollable sweet tooth cravings can often make it difficult. One solution to dealing with those intense cravings is to learn how to replace the sugar in your baked goods so that you can still enjoy those yummy treats.

In most cases, when it comes to sugar and cooking, it is not difficult to substitute other, safer sweeteners for sugar. However, when it comes to baking, many recipes depend on sugar for more than just the sweetness factor. For instance, baking cakes, cookies and certain breads depend on the sugar to help them cook properly. In cakes, sugar is part of the reason that they rise so delicately high. In cookies, it is the sugar that helps them spread out so perfectly on the baking sheet. Those delicious candies that you love has to rely on the way sugar melts during the combining process that results in their sticky texture. Yeast-raised breads need sugar to start the reaction that causes the bread to rise. Although these delectable delights rely on the multiple qualities of sugar, below are some tips that can help you to properly replace sugar in some of your favorite treats.

Use Splenda Sugar Substitute Instead of Sugar for Sweetening

There are many sugar substitutes on the market however, Splenda is the one that is most often recommended for baking and cooking. Unlike Aspartame, Sucralose, which is the main ingredient and sweetener in Splenda, is heat-stable. This simply means that Splenda does not lose its sweetness when it is baked or cooked, making it the ideal choice for sweetening any mouth-watering baked desserts from puddings to cheesecakes and more. In addition, the Splenda granulated sugar substitute is designed to measure just like sugar. One cup of Splenda has the same sweetening power as one cup of sugar, making substitutions extremely easy.

Special Tips for Using Splenda in Baking

While Splenda sweetens just like sugar, it is important to note that it does not behave chemically like sugar does in certain recipes. The creators of Splenda offer certain helpful tips for replacing sugar with Splenda in baked recipes.

For bread and yeast based recipes you want to keep at least two tablespoons of regular sugar in the recipe to activate yeast. You can replace the rest of the sugar that the recipe calls for with Splenda.

For angel cake, pound cake, fudge and pecan pies, you only need to replace about one-quarter the amount of sugar called for in the recipe. Those recipes rely on sugar for their texture and if you reduce it too much, the items will not set up properly. You will still reduce the sugar by twenty five percent while still retaining all of the flavor.

For certain cakes and quick breads, replace the nine-inch pan with an eight-inch pan to maximize the rise of the dessert. You will also get a higher rise if you add a half of a cup of non-fat dry milk powder and a half of a teaspoon of baking soda for every cup of Splenda that you use. You can also add one envelope of Dream Whip to the recipe for added moisture and rise.

For crunchy or crisp cookies, try replacing only the white sugar with Splenda and leaving the brown sugar as is. Splenda also makes Splenda Sugar Blend and Splenda Brown Sugar Blend, which mixes sugar with Splenda so that you can reduce the calories and carbohydrates in your recipes by half, while still maintaining the right texture, browning and rise from your baking recipes.

Sweeten Recipes with Fruit Purees and Fruit Juices

Many recipes can be sweetened naturally with fruit purees and fruit juices. Applesauce is one of the most common fruit purees used to add both sweetness and moisture to quick breads and cakes. Fruit juice concentrate is another excellent sugar substitute. White grape juice concentrate, apple juice concentrate and orange juice concentrate can all be used in place of sugar. For every cup of sugar called for in the recipe, use a quarter cup of fruit juice concentrate and reduce the liquid in the recipe by three tablespoons.

Use Honey to Sweeten Breads and Baked Goods

Honey often tastes sweeter on the tongue than sugar does, so you need less of it to get the same sweetness. Honey also browns and liquefies when heated, though not exactly the same way that sugar does. Honey tends to brown more quickly than sugar, and makes baked goods moister and denser. For every cup of sugar called for in the recipe, use three quarters of a cup plus one tablespoon of honey and reduce the liquid in the recipe by two tablespoons. Add a pinch of baking soda to take off the acid edge.

Learning to bake without sugar or with reduced sugar takes a bit of time and effort, but the effort pays off in baked goods and desserts that are as nutritious as they are delicious.

The Paleo Diet Recipes – Exposing One Of The Most Brutal Paleo Diet Recipes!

The paleo diet recipes I dug up from an internet archive not too long ago were dreadfully lame! I made a couple of those recipes and they were so flavorless, I don't think any modern caveman would lap them up.

Okay! Maybe some would, but let's get something straight....

Even though the modern Paleolithic diet is not renowned for its tasty offerings, that doesn't mean we can't dish up some mouth-watering Paleo cuisines!

See, recently I found a bunch of Paleolithic cookbooks. The paleo diet recipes presented in those books seemed gastronomically satisfying. Actually, they are hundreds of recipes in those books. I've only tried about 14 so far and they all tasted good!

I'm so drunk with joy because prior to discovering those cookbooks, my interest in this healthy diet had waned considerably no thanks to the lack of quality Paleo meal recipes online.

In fact, I feel extremely delighted right now, thus I wish to share a BRUTALLY delicious Paleo recipe which I obtained from one of the cookbooks.

And at the end of this recipe, I'll tell you where to get those cookbooks if you're interested.

Now, enjoy this recipe!

Raw Food Diet - What is the Downside?

Let us say someone has just now become aware of the harmful effects of cooking and freezing food and now wishes to 'go raw'. The downside is that he is barraged with warring camps of raw food enthusiasts. Some agree on a few points but take sides and seek to disqualify the opposition on most issues. That to me IS the downside.

Briefly, the major camps consist of:
Raw vegans who eat only raw plant food, but raise the temperature of 'raw' to 115 degrees Fahrenheit

Raw vegetarians who eat fruit, vegetables and sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, eggs and honey but no red meat, and mostly no fish or poultry. For most vegetarians, eggs and dairy are included.

The Raw Paleolithic diet is one of the raw animal food diets. The Raw Paleolithic diet includes raw meat and organs but excludes raw dairy, grains and legumes.

The Primal Diet is a raw food diet which stems from traditional and primitive diets that include meats (fatty meat is preferred) and organs, dairy in all forms, raw eggs, honey, vegetable juice and some fruit with raw fat.

Most versions of a raw food diet DO cause benefits. Some benefit is caused by the automatic elimination of all processed foods and additives - for instance, flour and refined sugar under all names.

Some raw food diets allow table salt (or sea salt) to be a part of a raw food diet, not as a living food but justified by the fact that sodium chloride crystals are found in nature.

Most of the talk and internet presence is about vegetarian and vegan raw diets all of which need various quantities of supplements to enable the dieter to get enough basic nutrition. Many people can get along for a while as vegans or vegetarians. The main visible side effect is looking very thin. The main experiential side effects can be fatigue, lack of energy, muscles weakening & vanishing, and reduction of bone mass.

The history of body building has many important examples of what can be achieved on a raw paleo or Primal diet (reference: Muscle, Smoke and Mirrors, Vol. I - a complete history of body building viewable by Googling the author Randy Roach).

According to the vegan/vegetarian plan, mother's milk is the only beneficial milk - therefore do you need to bring your mother when you go away to college or move out to start a career (to say nothing of having her available in the high school cafeteria)? Other than that, even raw milk from a goat or a cow is not recommended on the strictly vegetarian/vegan diet, nor are other dairy products or eggs.

One goal of each of the raw food camps (vegetarian, vegan, paleo and Primal) is to eliminate any reliance on drugs or other medical procedures such as surgery. This is definitely NOT a downside in most cases, however the fact that the various camps fight against each other as to how this can best be done leaves the potential newcomer to raw food battle-worn and starved for some convincing evidence of the effectiveness of whatever camp he is most drawn to.

Another fairly general goal of each raw food diet is to reduce intake of toxic matter and eliminate stored toxins. The ways of achieving this vary quite a bit from camp to camp. The ways a human body deals with toxins include proper functioning of circulatory, lymphatic and immune systems through the lungs, sweat glands, liver, kidneys and colon. The vegetarian raw food diets have a close reliance on repetitive colon cleansing through a series of enemas and/or colonic irrigations combined with fasts. Some downsides include that this is time consuming - plus one increases one's reliance on these man-made solutions instead of decreasing reliance. On the Primal Diet, there are NO recommended breaks from intake of proper food - even for a day - and there are several natural ways of bringing about proper elimination of toxins. For instance, proper elimination can be accomplished through lymphatic baths (see We Want To Live for details) and natural methods of elimination through the colon, which don't also flush away valuable bacteria.

Some versions of the raw food diet are not helped by ongoing campaigns that only thin people can be good looking. Continuous and persistent ad campaigns show thin cover girls on popular magazines. Again the ways of achieving such thinness vary tremendously; there are many other ways for weight loss besides a raw food diet but in none of these diets is health given the #1 priority. In a truly beneficial raw food diet, health IS the priority.

One would think that if our digestive abilities as humans were studied, more agreement could be reached. This study has been done but the results have been kept safely between the covers of a book, thus are not well known & thus the debate continues. Email the author of this article to ask for the summary paragraph about our digestive abilities.

In summary, when one chooses to follow a raw food diet despite the downsides mentioned above, there are many sub-choices which require some due diligence. One must add in the time it takes to make or buy daily staples such as fresh vegetable juice and raw coconut cream. One must budget to cover the costs and one must find sources for various foods & feel right about whether or not they are all natural or have been fudged in one way or another.

Paleo Chicken Recipes – The Recipe that Won My Mother-In-Law’s Heart!

I've been looking for some delectable paleo chicken recipes like forever; I think...Look, I was sick and tired of hearing my mother-in-law's negative remarks about the paleo diet (I've always been at odds with her!).

And despite the obvious change in my physique (I lost some body fat thanks to this diet), she kept insisting that the "caveman diet" is a fad type of diet and may be detrimental to my mind in the long run.

Huh? For real?

Well you see, the Paleolithic diet is perceived by many as one of the most boring dietary regimen on the planet. You can't eat dairy stuff, artificial preservatives, rice, bread etc.

These are staple foods of most people!

So when you go on a paleo diet plan, you can't eat those things. You end up eating tasteless dishes every single day, and your mind may very well go nuts. Well...at least that's her theory which I argued vehemently.

And then she challenged me!

She told me to search for some nice paleo chicken recipes and quit eating the same thing every day. See, I only knew how to make 2 different paleo chicken meals...

One is paleo chicken soup with cabbage and the other, paleo chicken with a bunch of garlic and onion. Hmmm...Pretty boring I admit.

So I accepted her challenge. I checked out a few bookstores and after what seemed like forever, I came across a bunch of download only paleo cookbooks online. There are so many sumptuous paleo chicken recipes in those books and they're also pretty easy to prepare!

Heck, they have all kinds of stuff in there including recipes for paleo cookies, chocolates, noodles, snacks etc all done the paleo way. You may follow the link at the bottom to check out the cookbooks:

Anyway, here's the chicken recipe that won my mother-in-law's heart!

Paleo Style Chicken and Egg Salad with Satay Gravy

Ingredients for the salad:

1 steamed chicken breast, shredded.

2 boiled eggs, cut them into quarters

1 carrot, diced

1 cup of rocket leaves

1 large green capsicum, diced

Ingredients for gravy:

1 tbs olive oil

¼ cup of almond butter

¼ cup of coconut cream

1 grated white onion

3 cloves crushed garlic

Some chili flakes

Directions:

1) Fry garlic and onion with olive oil until they turn slightly browned.

2) Now put in the remaining gravy ingredients and stir until gravy thickens. Remove from heat and add in chili flakes.

3) Put the ingredients for salad in a bowl and then pour in the gravy.

Now, lap up what I consider to be one of the best paleo chicken recipes on the planet (my mum-in-law thinks so too!).

So if you're interested in whipping up all sorts of tasty paleo chicken recipes such as hazelnut chicken schnitzel, chicken larb kai, Bombay skewers plus loads of recipes on snacks, seafood, omelette, salads, done Paleolithic diet style, then go to: http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Marble Wine Chiller versus Silver Wine Chiller - Which One Should You Get

There are many types of wine chillers. However, for any dinning experience, only 2 come to mind, the marble wine chiller, and the silver wine chiller. After you have read this article, you will be able to decide on which one to choose from, and which one is best for your tastes.

Marble Chiller:

These can be bought with your kitchen in mind. You have many colors, and designs to choose from, so that they can fit into your current decor. Plus, they don't look to gaudy at all.

They are very reasonably priced, usually ranging from $20 to $100. Usually the more expensive ones are personalized ones, or have other engravings on them.

These are easy to store in the freezer, and normally come with a lid. You just take it out when you want to chill a drink at the table. And it doesn't even seem out of place at all.

Silver Chiller:

You can either get them actual silver, or silver plated. They come in all shapes and sizes, from bucket form to an elaborate vase. It all depends on your tastes.

They don't really fit in anywhere, and are usually only used on special occasions, as they aren't very practical looking for every day chilling.

These tend to be pretty expensive, ranging anywhere from $80 and up, even for the plated ones.

They are not something you want to keep in your freezer for chilling purposes, as they are oddly shaped, and don't go well in there. You will usually put ice in them for the chilling.

One thing to note, is that these kind of wine chillers tend to "sweat" a lot, and you will want a towel near by, or under it to keep the water off of any surface.

Now that you have read the article, you have a better understanding of the differences between a marble wine chiller, and a silver wine chiller as well. Which one would you by? Well I guess that all depends on the occasion you are having, or if you just want it for everyday use. The marble is better for everyday uses, while the silver one might be good for weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays, however, for the cost involved on a silver one, you still might want to go with a fancier marble chiller. The choice really is up to you.

Looking for a great table top wine chiller? Maybe something that goes with the rest of your kitchen, or dining room? Well, you will want to get a marble wine bottle chiller for your chilling purposes. Need more info? Maybe a wide variety of choices? Then you had better get yourself to this website now, and take a look at what is out there for you http://winebottlechiller.org

Paleo Diet For Athletes - Caution: You Will Cheat On This Diet, Let's Solve The Problem Now!

Paleo diet for athletes is a handy reference book that should appeal to mostly endurance athletes. See, I'm a recreational bodybuilder and while the book provides a decent general outline of the Paleolithic diet, the program including the nutritional blueprint is actually geared at athletes in endurance sports.

That being said, the Paleo diet for athletes book was still an interesting read, and I highly recommend it to those who have already picked up Loren Cordain's maiden Paleo book called: "The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Food You Were Designed to Eat."

Whew! What a mouthful!

Okay now, I'm not here to write some kind of highly in-depth Paleo diet for athletes review. You can find numerous reviews of this book on hundreds and thousands of sites.

Instead, my concern is this:

Paleo diet offers many positive benefits, but this diet's cheating rate is extremely high, especially in the first few weeks. And, cheating all too often will result in complete abandonment of this healthy diet.

Let's face it ...Paleo meals are boring!

A quick glance at the Paleo Diet Food List is enough to let you know how bland this dietary regimen can be...

So how do you solve this problem?

The solution is simple. You need to amass TONS of DELICIOUS and SIMPLE to prepare Paleo recipes to ensure your daily meals are always interesting, and can also be dished out in minimum time.

Oh yes! I'm aware that many recipes are included in the Paleo diet for athletes book, but most of them are pretty bland and too elaborate too make.

Alright look, I wanted to give up this diet at first, but I was lucky to stumble onto this website where hundreds of easy and tasty Paleo recipes were offered in an immediately downloadable format.

Now, I can fully commit to this diet because the recipes I obtained from that site are way better than the ones presented in the Paleo diet for athletes book.

Anyway, you can also download those delicious Paleo recipes as the website is still around (at the time of this writing). The ebook set offers a total of 310 recipes! Just follow this link to download:http://www.paleorecipecookbooks.info/

Cheese Plate 101

Serving an elegant cheese plate appetizer is a must for any sophisticated party host. Not only do cheese platters look fantastic, they taste great and can provide conversation topics. Use these tips to create the perfect cheese board for your next gathering. Adding different colors, shapes and accompanying foods allows entertainers to create totally unique presentations.
Getting started

We suggest selecting about five different fromages per cheese plate. Gathering various French cheeses on the same platter pulls together different tastes and textures and showcases the depth of the French Cheese families. Be sure to include hard and soft cheeses and include mild and strong flavors. In total, buy about two-to-four ounces of cheese per guest. It's best to include various milk types, such as an Ile de France goat cheese and a cheese made from sheep's milk as well as cow's milk. Also include a bleu cheese and a brie to ensure the best variety. The different cheeses are shaded differently. They will add a sense of color and refinement to your cheese plate.

Select the foods you want to accompany your cheese choices. Different types of bread, such as baguette or flat bread, go well with all cheeses. Crackers are another classic cheese board choice - choose your favorite variety and don't forget to have different types for the different cheeses. Add some color with different jams and other condiments, spreads and honeys. Various cheeses have natural compliments for you to explore, such as apples and brie cheese - together they taste great and look even better on a cheeseboard! Add more color by including fruits and vegetables to your cheese plate - apples, pears and grapes work well. Presenting nuts can add further variety and snacking options.
Present your plate

Cutting your selected French cheese into different shapes and sizes is an excellent way to add pizzazz to your platter. Triangles, squares, rectangles and circles go well together, and you also can cut the cheeses into your own original shapes to add an artistic flare. The easiest way to ensure you have variety is to include different types of French cheeses, which often are pre-cut into various shapes like logs and wedges.

Try arranging your selected cheeses by the region in France they are made - our French cheese map shows where the different families of cheeses are produced. Leave the rinds on some and remove it on others to further vary the look of your offerings.

Pay attention to the actual plate. From glass cheese platters to sterling silver to wicker flat baskets you can easily cater your serving ware to the occasion - breaking out the antique silver platter can really add some elegance to a casual get together, while a less formal plate may help relax your guests at a formal celebration.

Small labels next to each cheese that include its name and milk type is a great way to add an elegant, educational vibe to your cheese board, making it more than just an appetizer.
Properly prep

Fine fromages are best savored at room temperature - so take your French cheese out of the refrigerator about an hour before serving. It's easier to cut cheese when it's cold, so cut them into the shapes and sizes you want before letting the cheese temperatures rise.

For ideas and recipes on specific cheese platters, check out our French cheese boards and platters recipe page at http://iledefrancecheese.com/index.php/New-Cheese-Boards.php
